Weed control fabric—also known as weed barrier fabric, ground cover, or mulch fabric—works by blocking light to inhibit weed photosynthesis, thereby suppressing weed growth. Commercially available weed control fabrics generally fall into two main categories: woven plastic fabrics and non-woven fabrics. Because this method relies on physical light-blocking rather than chemicals, it largely eliminates the risks of herbicide contamination, making it a safe and reliable weed control solution.
These fabrics are primarily made from three types of materials: PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), and PLA (polylactic acid).
Weed control fabric offers a modern alternative to traditional manual weeding and the use of herbicides.
Compared to manual weeding, it saves on labor costs and reduces time and effort. Manual weeding typically requires at least two or three rounds per year; for large-scale operations, this entails significant labor expenses and the time-consuming task of supervising the work. In contrast, once the weed control fabric is installed, it requires no further maintenance throughout its service life, offering substantial savings in both time and labor.
